CO₂ Emissions from EV industry Reduced by 19%

Recycling lithium batteries in Europe emits 19% less CO₂ than extracting lithium from hard rock in Australia and refining it in China, a critical win for climate sustainability.

12 New Mines Avoided

Battery recycling in Europe could eliminate the need to open 12 new global mines by 2040, including 4 lithium, 3 nickel, 4 cobalt, and 1 manganese mine, preserving ecosystems and communities.

Most of Cobalt Demand Met by Recycling

Up to 53% of Cobalt Demand Met by Recycling. Recycled cobalt from batteries is expected to meet most of Europe's demand by 2040, drastically reducing reliance on ethically and environmentally challenging mining operations.

Based on Transport & Environment report:

From waste to value, Europe's opportunity for self-sufficiency and a low-impact supply chain (Dec. 2024).
